ほうきゅうあん 城崎温泉店 | HOUKYUAN Kinosaki Onsen

城崎温泉の歴史ある街並みに馴染むよう、外観は黒を基調とし、木の表情を活かした落ち着きのある佇まいに整えた。そこへ、銅色を思わせる「HOUKYUAN」のサインや足元のディテールを加えることで、老舗らしい品格の中に、さりげない華やかさを添えている。
店頭には大きく開いた販売カウンターを設け、商品や調理の気配が通りから自然に感じられる構成とした。観光客が行き交う温泉街の中で、思わず足を止めたくなるような「開かれた店構え」を意識している。
カウンターには、素材の揺らぎや手仕事の表情を感じられるグレーの左官仕上げを採用。そこに店名「汸臼庵」を彫り込むように表現することで、過度に主張することなく、ブランドの歴史や手仕事の温度を感じさせる意匠とした。
黒い木部、無機質な左官、ガラス、そして銅色のアクセント。異なる素材を抑えた色調の中で組み合わせることで、伝統的な温泉街の景観を尊重しながら、現代の店舗としての清潔感と視認性を両立させている。
風土と歴史を受け継ぎながら、今の街に自然と馴染むこと。
素材、光、サインの細部まで丁寧に整えることで、これからも長く愛される店舗を目指した。

Designed to blend naturally into the historic streetscape of Kinosaki Onsen, the exterior is composed around a restrained black palette that highlights the texture and character of the existing timber. Copper-toned details, including the “HOUKYUAN” signage and accents at the base of the storefront, add a subtle sense of refinement while preserving the dignity of a long-established brand.

A wide-open sales counter connects the shop directly with the street, allowing passersby to catch glimpses of the products and the preparation taking place inside. In a lively hot-spring town frequented by visitors, the storefront was designed to feel open and inviting—encouraging people to pause and step closer.

The counter is finished in a textured gray plaster that reveals subtle variations and the traces of handcraft. The name “汸臼庵” is expressed as though carved directly into the surface, creating a quiet yet distinctive detail that conveys the brand’s history and the warmth of craftsmanship.

Dark timber, mineral-like plaster, glass, and copper-toned accents are brought together within a subdued palette. By balancing these contrasting materials, the design respects the traditional character of Kinosaki while introducing the clarity, cleanliness, and visibility expected of a contemporary retail space.

The aim was to create a place that inherits the character and history of its surroundings while belonging naturally to the town as it exists today.
Through careful consideration of materials, light, signage, and detail, the space was designed to remain a familiar and enduring presence for years to come.
